Minetora
A moment to unwind in the city.
Situated near Jonangu Shrine in Fushimi, Kyoto, Minetora serves a broad repertoire of traditional Japanese fare, from portable stove–heated nabeyaki udon infused with house dashi to tempura and multi-dish sets featuring rice from Hachidaime Gihey.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Follow the large turning water wheel along National Route 1 near the historic Toba Imperial Villa grounds in Fushimi, and you will arrive at the Japanese restaurant Minetora. Many visitors step through the noren curtains after paying their respects at neighbouring Jonangu Shrine, greeted immediately by the appetite-whetting aroma of meticulously brewed Kyoto-style dashi. Among the highlights is nabeyaki udon, served bubbling hot on a tabletop burner. Generously loaded with prawn tempura, seasonal vegetables, chicken, and egg, it allows diners to savour the deeply savoury broth down to the very last drop as the ingredients slowly enrich the soup.
The noodle and rice bowl options are extensive, allowing choices to suit any appetite, whether that means Kujo Negi Udon spotlighting scallions sourced from a dedicated farm or Meat Curry Udon pairing robust dashi with a warming spice kick. Rice bowls are just as well represented, including oyako-don and tento-ji don, where tempura is enveloped in a fluffy blanket of egg and seasoned broth. For a more substantial meal, structured set courses combine side dishes with gleaming white rice from storied Kyoto purveyor Hachidaime Gihey. Elaborate sets such as Hanase—which brings together sushi, crisp tempura, and chawanmushi—offer dependable satisfaction whenever you crave a well-rounded feast.
Inside, the spacious dining room features solo-friendly counter seats alongside private dining rooms and sunken horigotatsu seating that lets guests stretch their legs in comfort. With ample free parking on site, it makes an effortless stop whether you are pulling off the road for a casual daytime drive or gathering the whole family for an evening meal.
